I have done my nursing degree outside of the army but I'm looking to join, would I be able to train to be a doctor?

Chloe R. asked a question to Claire W.

I am looking at joining the military I'm unsure whether to go in as a soldier or an officer, but would I be able to train to become a doctor through the army or not? Thanks

Hello and thank you for your question.

That's great to hear you already work in healthcare and obviously enjoy helping people. The Army does offer student bursaries for those wanting to train to be a Doctor, in return you would be required to serve a minimum of 6 years. My advice would be to research online re the roles and the difference in joining as a Soldier vs an Officer.

If you were to put through an application to become a Professionally Qualified Officer, you can then speak to the team about entry requirements, timelines, how to get a bursary etc and that will probably help you make the best decision for you. You can always put through another application to become a Soldier if you decide the Officer route is not for you.

Wishing you lots of luck with your application 😄
