How should I prepare to join the army as a 15 year old? My plan is to finish A-Levels and try to apply as an Officer.

By preparing I mean physically and mentally preparing, is there anything unexpected when applying as an Officer in the army that I should know of? Thank you in advance.

    Hello,

It's great that you're planning ahead for your future! Here are some steps you can take to prepare for joining the British Army as an officer:

    1. Focus on Your Education: Since you plan to finish your A-Levels, aim to achieve good grades. You'll need at least 72 UCAS points (or equivalent) and 35 ALIS points, including a C/4 or above in English language, maths, and a science or foreign language
    2. Stay Physically Fit: Physical fitness is crucial for Army life. Start incorporating regular exercise into your routine, including running, strength training, and flexibility exercises. This will help you meet the Army's fitness standards
    3. Develop Leadership Skills: Officers need strong leadership abilities. Look for opportunities to develop these skills, such as joining school clubs, sports teams, or community organisations where you can take on leadership roles
    4. Learn About the Army: Research the different roles and responsibilities of an Army officer. Understanding what the job entails will help you make an informed decision and prepare for the selection process
    5. Consider Joining the Army Cadet Force: If you're not already a member, joining the Army Cadet Force can give you a taste of military life and help you develop valuable skills. You'll participate in activities like survival skills, weapons handling, and outdoor adventures
    6. Work on Your Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential for an officer. Practice your verbal and written communication skills through public speaking, writing, and engaging in discussions
    7. Seek Guidance: Talk to current or former Army officers, visit an Army Career Centre, or attend Army open days to get firsthand insights and advice on the application process and life in the Army.

By focusing on these areas, you'll be well-prepared to apply for the British Army as an officer when you turn 18. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!

    Dipanshu,

Everything you need to know is on the Army Jobs website. For physical preparation you need only be able to pass the entry fitness requirements, your Physical Training Instructors will take care of the rest.
For mental preparation, I always advise researching your chosen role. The main Army website and the Army Jobs website are good places to start.

    Good luck!
