Euan M. asked a question to Carl S.
Hi Euan,
The role of a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) in the British Army is both rewarding and challenging. As an HCA, you'll support medical staff by working closely with registered military nurses and clinicians to deliver high-quality care to patients with varied medical needs. You'll assist in the delivery of clinical excellence, ensuring patients receive the best possible care. Be prepared to be deployed worldwide on various operations or to assist with humanitarian aid missions. The Army provides fully funded opportunities for continuing professional development.
Initially, you'll undergo basic military training to learn essential soldiering skills, including fieldcraft and weapon handling. Following basic training, you'll attend the Defence Medical Services (DMS) Whittington in Lichfield for specialised healthcare training. This includes both academic and practical elements, and you'll work towards an Apprenticeship Level 3 in Clinical Healthcare Support.
To qualify, you must be between 17 years and 6 months to 35 years and 6 months old. You'll need GCSE Grade A-C/9-4 in English Language and GCSE Grade A-G/9-1 (Functional Skills Level 1) in Maths or equivalent qualifications. The Army provides opportunities for career development, including gaining qualifications and skills that are transferable to civilian roles. Additionally, you'll participate in adventurous training and sports, such as sky-diving and skiing, which help build teamwork and resilience.
Hope this helps
