Hi was wondering what your average day would consist in the HR role and also is there any chance for you to get to see combat? Thank you
Hi! Every day is a different day! Depending on what unit your with depends on what your days consist of
Hi Nathan, thank you for your question. An average day for me would start with morning fitness around 8am, followed by office work with a lunch break. a normal day would finish around 5pm
You can be deployed with your Unit on overseas operations, including combat roles. If you are attached to an Infantry battalion for example, your secondary role would be working/training with them
As a HR specialist do you get to do extra sport after office hours like boxing for example. Thank you.
That would depend on what Regiment or Corps you would be attached to, but most units work on the same daily routine.
Boxing is big in the Army so yes. Good thing about the Army is you get to do it during working hours! If you are good enough you could spend a lot of time doing boxing for the regiment/battalion/Army
Yes! You can also do your boxing coach courses if that’s something that interests you
You can do any sport in Army does not matter what corps you are.
Yes indeed. Sport is a big thing in the army and you can be involved in any sports there is available in the army. so if you were interested in boxing, there is definitely an opportunity to try out
Perfect also do you have to get selected if you wish to progress to an accountant position or can any body from HR put there name forward for it. Thank you
I’m looking to join the army very soon but I wanted to know if I would be able to spend my last year on school (year 11) in a army collage as I’ll be 16 just after I go into year 11
The job role as a Regimental Accountant is only available to Sgt-SSgt, some units allow Cpls to do the job though
You would have to complete school, at least at GCSE, you then could attend Army Foundation College Harrogate if you are under the age of 17 Years 5 months prior to starting at AFC Harrogate.
So wouldn’t I be able to join just after my 16th as I go into year 11 in September n I’m 16 October
Being in HR do you get many opportunities to do any adventure training and also if it was something that was of interest, could you do extra courses such as jungle warfare training etc.
Do SPS go on operations or do they stay in the UK?
No not really but I would be interested as I really want to just dive straight into the army
You would need to16 year 6 months to start AFC Harrogate and have completed your GCSE's
Hi Nathan! There is so much opportunity to do AT in the army
I've done lots of adventure training during my time including sailing and mountaineering.
Of jungle warfare is something that interests you, then later on down the line in your career. You can do JWIC which is the Jungle Warfare instructors Course
So I have to be 16 6 months min to join Harrogate?
You also get the opportunity to be deployed on overseas exercises and operations. In 2018 I was in South Sudan for 6 months as part of UN peacekeeping whilst being an AGC (SPS) soldier.
Hi George, yes SPS serve all over the world
What would you suggest I do?
Would you day that being in HR is a rewarding role
Seabrook, you can start an application from 15 years and 7 months but you will not be able to start at the Army Foundaton Cllege until you are 16 years old
Very much so Nathan!
So I’m 16 in October so would I get into there on the September when they have new people come
Iv done my application just waiting
You wouldn’t be able to join before 16 Seabrook
I find it rewarding. You do get to help people with issues almost every day, as well as all the other stuff you get to do as a soldier.
You would most likely be picked up in the March intake
You can apply now, but need to be 16yrs and 6 months to start
Ok thank you for taking time to answer my questions.
So would I have to wait till Christmas or somthing
Hey Nathan it is a very rewarding job especially the fact that you can be attached to any cap badge and can be posted any where. opportunities are vast
Yeah , you be able start in trhe March intake for Harrogate
When do they have new people come in
There are two intakes each year Seabrook. March and September. There is another in October but that is only for Scottish school leavers as they receive their results later
Okay so in March I’ll be over 16 years old n they what will be my next steps once iv been accepted for Harrogate
What’s the best thing about your role?
Whats the highest level of finance/economics qualificaitions you can get in the SPS?
For AFC Harrogate we have 2 intake a year, March and Sep some jobs you are able to start at 16 and some 16 and 6 months hs for HR is 16 and 6,
Do you have a say in which unit you are posted with? Do you have much opportunity for travel?
But if you are in Scotland, you can join in the October intake. It is a very small intake though. You just join a week after everyone else and slot into a platoon
You pick three choices when deciding on where to be posted to. If there are open vacancies at your first choice, you’ll get that. If not, they will work down your list
Gareth Best thing is that you can be attached t any cap badge ad be posted anywhere. you have a wider posting selection. Career progression is good as well. You can also get a CIMA qualification which you can put your name for when you reach the Rank of Sgt and you can also get a Business admin Degree. both these courses are subject to passing and entry level exam and for the Business Admin you can use what is called enhanced learning credits. They are very open to anyone within the a

Hello, is the hr specialist role a desk based job? Thank you
A lot of our time is spent in the office, but most roles are quite office based. Like we've spoke about above; we do get a lot of opportunity to do other things
Thank you
