Why don't soldiers blow up ieds from a distance with grenades instead of risking bomb disposal men's lives ?

Thanks for your question.
The aim is to disarm an IED or to conduct a controlled explosion, that way it does minimum damage to any people or infrastructure in the area. If we were to throw a grenade at it, the IED would detonate and could have catastrophic effect, especially if a large amount of explosives had been used in the IED.
