When I apply for the infantry do I get a choice in whichever of the rifles I want to join or do I get put in whichever

    Thanks for the question!

    Whilst at the Soldier Academy North (Catterick), Recruits you will make a list of preferences on which Battalion you would like to join within the Rifles. There will be opportunities to learn more about the different units and specific roles and locations of each one before making your final request of preferences. Although the ultimate decision on which Battalion you join within your Regiment is also influenced by the needs of the Army at the time. This includes current operational requirements, personnel shortages, and other logistical considerations. Any aspiring Rifleman should pick which battalion best suits them but remain flexible to where within the Rifles they might end up. The army will always do its best to accommodate people preferences when joining if it doesn’t affect any of the previously stated possible issues.
