When going for an officer role do you get to pick what regiment you’d like to join like if I chose to go Irish guards

I’m still young but I want to be certain on the career I pick. I definitely see myself in the Irish guards but should I target my career toward infantry because of that? if I go straight to sandhurst can I do any degree for an officer role?

So as an officer cadet at RMAS you will not be aliened to a regiment at 1st. Over your time there you will have opportunities to visit units of interest to start for shape or future choices.

once you reach, i think the 3rd team (about 3/4 of the way though training) everyone will apply for the role/regiment they want to join. I think you can apply for 3-5 different ones. the regiments will have a limited number of positions and they will offer those to their picks of who applies.

if you accept that offer, winner winner chicken dinner.

if you don't get a job, then you will go into "clearing". were are the jobless officers go to officer-less jobs.

That's my understanding of the process, it may have changed, it might be slightly different in reality.

You dont really have to target your life at the Irish guards now.

If thats what you want, then keep that in mind when the time comes to put that forward.

you'll need to get though training (RMAS) 1st. Focus on getting fit before you start and working hard when your there. Regiments want the best officers. Thats what you want to be.
