When doing foundation training is the best time to apply to become a medical officer?

I'm a medical student in my final year and I hope to join after my foundation years. When during FY1/2 is it best to submit my application? I decided on this relatively late in medical school, so I believe the bursar route isn't an option for me. I am worried that the application process will be difficult to juggle with the stress and demands of foundation training, especially finding the time to attend interviews, medicals etc (I've already passed my medical for the UOTC, if that counts for anything?) If you have any ideas or advice about this, I'm all ears! Also, if you think that there's anything I can do during what I have left of medical school to make my application stronger, or to lessen the burden down the line, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!

    Hi there!

I will answer this from a purely recruiting admin point of view to begin with. I would say the early you apply the better as you will have more time to schedule your AOSB etc around your rota if you have the longer window to complete them in. With a UOTC medical already on the books it may have to be repeated but should take less time I would imagine.

UOTC will always add strength to your application and I wouldn’t add too much more in to an already busy schedule. With your application in as soon as possible that will aid you to prepare for each step more readily. Very much akin to cramming vs proper revision for an exam.

    Hope this helps!
