Hi Jack,
As a GDMO you can give a preference for which medical regiment you would like to join - as with all things, this is not guaranteed.
Doctors who join 16 will often try to do P Company, but it's not required and not always possible (you'll be in high demand for other things!), equally there are doctors who join other regiments that will also do P Company (or the All Arms Commando course).
Most GDMOs have a similar experience no matter which medical regiment they join, you all get 'trawled' for taskings, the majority of your trips away will be with other parts of the Army.
So it's worth asking to go to 16 if you have a particular interest in doing P Company, but don't be disheartened if you end up elsewhere!
