There is no 'average' pay. A Private soldier, during basic training (c.14wks) is paid £15,985 per annum (approx £1k a month during basic training) but on completion rises to £20,400. A Corporal's starting annual salary is £31,869.
An officer starts on an annual salary of £27,818 whilst at Sandhurst which rises to £33,426 on commissioning. Army payscales are very transparent and can be found by googling 'British Army pay scale'. It isn't however just about the salary, being in the army we get other benefits such as; free medical and dental, pension, money to do education qualifications from fork lift driving to civilian windsurfing qualifications. We also have the opportunity to do Adventurous Training which is either free or hugely subsidised! We also have free access to gym and sports facilities.
