you can join the Infantry with NO qualifications, but that does limit the roles you can go on to do.
as a minimum, you'd want a few GCSEs or equivalents (including maths and english) to really open up some options. That scales all the way up to Uni courses and professional qualifications if you would like to be a doctor and so on.
the army nowadays is more a 9-5 work within camp. it has some unique aspects of culture and lifestyle like living with those you work with and deploying on training and operational as and when required.
in terms of fun.. again, the people you work and live with make it fun. there will be times where work is fun like.. playing sports, competitive PT sessions, ranges and other training events. these will be individual preference.
