What ranks I will hold at my various stages of training? For example, what will an FY doctor, GDMO and specialist be?

Hi there, I am a medical student looking to apply to be an army doctor. I know this question is hypervariable but I just want a general idea of the ranks held during my training. Sincerely, Cameron W

    Hi Cameron

FY doctors are 'Officer cadets' as they have not yet attended RMAS and commissioned.

    GDMOs are (usually) Captains.

Promotion to Major is (usually) as you start your 4th year of specialty training (so about 5-6 years after you commission) - or as you finish speciality training if you are CCT'ing as a GP.

Our terms of service is currently being finalised having been updated recently, but the above is a good rough guide.
