Iâm wrapping up my 4th year serving Honorably with the United States Marine Corps as an engineer. Iâve been deployed to Iraq, Syria, and Kuwait. I was wondering if I was to get my citizenship what kind of benefits and bonus I could qualify for being prior service and if that was even possible? Thanks a lot!
Hi Andrew, thanks for the question. As far as I am aware, you would have to start from the bottom, regardless of if you join as a soldier or as an officer.
To my knowledge, there is no "leg up" programme where you start at a higher rank or something similar to this. However, due to your experience, you obviously may have a competitive edge when it comes to promotion and job experience etc.
If you do end up qualifying to join, if I were you I would still contact your local careers centre for more information and to see what your options are.
