What is the right time to apply? Eg. Year before. Do my subjects matter for applying a career if they dont match?

I’m a year 12 and hoping to join the army when I finish year 13. (I’ll be 18) I currently study: Sociology, Health and social, English Literature & Language, EPQ. In the army I hope to go into a Mental Health Nurse position.

    Hi Chloe,

If you are looking to apply for one of our Student Mental Health Nurse roles then I would absolutely get your application in now. As there are different elements to our selection process including medical and assessment centre it can take some time and there will be no penalty for being in the system and progressing along steadily.

To be an Army Student Mental Health Nurse, you will need 120 UCAS points at A / T-Level, plus 3 GCSEs Grades 9-4 (previously A-C) including Maths, English Language and one of the following: Health and Social Care, Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Science double/triple award or equivalent. You will do your Phase1 military Basic Training prior to then studying at Birmingham City University, all whilst getting paid.

Alternatively, you can gain your Student Nurse university place through UCAS and apply for the Army Nursing Bursary. Worth up to £42,000. This can give £5,000 for each year of training. On successful completion of your student nursing course and successfully finishing soldier or officer training, you will be given a lump sum of £27,000. You will then enter the Army as a Registered Nurse and be assigned to a Department of Community Mental Health, where you will receive excellent mentorship from clinical practice educators.
