What is the process for becoming a officer pilot, as a JS at afc harrogate with all his GCSES

Hello, i have recently became very interested in the officer pilot role of the army air corps I am currently a JS at AFC Harrogate, i have all my GCSES at 5 and above, the most likely route i would go down would to become a LE officer and go from there.

Hey Matthew, thanks for your question. The best way to become an officer is as a direct entry candidate. That would give you enough time left in your career to undergo pilot training, which is pretty long and comes with a service commitment.

You would need to ensure you have the required number of UCAS points to be eligible for entry in to Sandhurst which is currently 72 points from a maximum of 3 Level 2 subjects (equivalent of 3 Ds at A-level) but you could get these while serving. You would then apply to become an officer by going through the Army Officer Selection Board process. Finally, once at RMAS, you would need to apply for the AAC as a pilot, which would include taking an additional aptitude test.

It's a long road, but a very rewarding career at the end. Of course, joining the Army Air Corps as groundcrew also gets you working around some very cool kit and will still see you deploying overseas to support flying operations.
