Hi
The pay is great. It will differ depending on whether you enlist as a solider or officer and if you have specific enhanced qualifications and therefore you will be employed in a specialised trade which will put you in a higher pay bracket later in your career. You also get paid during training too. As a solider in training you will earn £15,671 a year, this will rise to over £20,000 a year on completion as a private soldier. Further on, a typical Lance Corporal earns £26,790 a year, a Corporal £31,244 a year and a Sergeant £35,150 a year.
Its not just about the pay though. You have a non-contributory pension, which means the Government pay your pension contributions for you which saves you a considerable amount, you get free healthcare and gym and also subsidised food and accommodation. So it makes your wages go further than if you rented your own private accommodation and so on. Also, when you are away, you get lots of financial benefits (allowances), such as extra pay (and extra holiday!).
