Hello. I am a non-commissioned officer in the Army but after looking on the British website and speaking to officers I work with, I can answer your question.
Your initial commission is for 12 years but you do not have to serve the full 12 years if you do not wish to. You may choose to leave during training before you are commissioned or after at least 3 years' commissioned service.
