What is the household Calvary like? Is there more pressure as you’ve got to look after a horse and get it ready?

I’ve had horses all my life and competed to a high level! Will this give an advantage or does everyone have to do the basics

    Hi there!

As a soldier in the Household Cavalry, after you have finished your Phase 2, you first join the Mounted Regiment and undertake your equine training. With a background in horses you would be absolutely at an advantage there and it would be the management of your kit that will likely pose the biggest challenge. You will still do the basic training alongside your peers to get the military riding side.

The ceremonial role will always be busy with having to look after the horses but it is also incredibly rewarding with the events and occasions you take part in. With the household cavalry you will also move to the Armoured role after your time in the mounted regiment and then from there you can rotate in and out to the mounted when the spots and time allow.

If it was equine ceremonial you wanted to do full time and for your full career, then the Kings Troop RHA would be an equally good choice.

Thank you for your response! I like the idea of the dual role so either the household Calvary or the guards will be my choice!
