Hello, I'm a young musician and I've been playing the saxophone and trombone for 3 years. I know that some people might frown upon the idea of playing a woodwind and a brass instrument at the same time, so I was wondering what the British Army's stance on this is. I really enjoy playing the saxophone, but at the moment, I feel that I want to specialize more in the trombone. However, I would like to specialize in two wind instruments for the audition. Should I perhaps start playing another brass instrument?
Hello David, Great question!
The honest answer is that there is no problem with playing multiple instruments, as long as you remain proficient on your primary instrument.
I would advise working hard on the instrument you wish to play most of the time. during a career in British Army Music there are many opportunities to use a secondary instrument in small ensembles.
