Hello,
Hopefully Jordon W. might be able to give you a bit more of an insight into this.
How often you see your family will vary for anyone in the military. The two main factors will be how often you are deployed and where you are posted to.
Most units try to give soldiers a Friday afternoon off, this enables them to travel home to see family and friends for the weekend. Some of the more remote units may even have a slightly later start on a Monday morning as well.
If you are deployed or go on exercise, often you will be given some time off after you get back to spend with family, how much will depend on how long you have been away.
If you do find yourself posted a long way from your home, the military offers 'Get You Home' pay, this is a set amount of extra money on top of your salary each month to put towards petrol/train/flight costs.
