Every 2Lt leaves Sandhurst with exactly the same knowledge. You commission into a specific part of the Army (ie Intelligence Corps) but you don't gain that specific trade knowledge until you've completed your Young Officers course. A course every officer does to learn their trade. As a soldier this is known as 'Phase 2'. You will know prior to leaving Sandhurst (ie commissioning) what Intelligence Unit you will be going to and this will depend on what you do as a job role. Much of being a 2Lt in any Corps is about learning your job (trade) and looking after the soldiers you have the privilege to command.

    Hi Jen, Thanks for replying.

I'm aware that this will be different for every single role; but how long does Phase 2 typically take? And how long after you commission out of Sandhurst do you begin?

    Thank you,

    B

Hi, Phase 2 (but for officer's it's known as the Young officer (YO) course ) is usually about 3 months and then there will be certain courses you would have to attend over time. You start your YOs course immediately after finishing RMAS (after taking leave - usually about a month). I hope this helps.
