Medical support officers and medical officers are two different roles, so it would depend as to what one you are referring to, each have their own responsibilities. Medical officers are qualified doctors which will have leadership responsibilities such as running medical centres or practices and the personnel within these something that a lot of civilian practices wouldn't allow you to do without years and years worth of experience. Medical support officers on the other hand are non clinical roles which are in command of a number of troops, they have the responsibility for the safety of all personnel they would be expected to write up action plans for exercises and adventurous activities as well as yearly reports for their troops, they also have the opportunity to get a degree in leadership and management within the Army.
