What do you think are the benefits of being a musician in the army as opposed to the RAF?

Hi there, thanks for a great question!

It's a really difficult one to answer; as part of British Army Music we work with our fantastic colleagues in the RAF Music Service all the time at prestigious national and international events, and the job is very similar.

If I were to pick out a few benefits of being an Army musician it would be a wider range of assignment locations to choose from (we have 14 bands and the RAF have 3), and we have more specialist musical ensembles to choose from as well (such as a dedicated string orchestra and brass bands). The Army overall is a larger organisation, so if you are interested in particular sports, for example, you are more likely to find a larger cohort of people who share your interest in the Army.
