What career path did you go down to become a Medical Officer?

Anonymous asked a question to Tori C.

I'm interested in joining the Medical as a Medical Support Officer or a Technician but I am not sure what path to go down.

    Tori C. Regimental Medical Officer

    Hello,

A Medical Officer is a qualified Doctor, so involves going to medical school and working in a clinical role. I am happy to expand on how I ended up as an MO, but as you're interested in either becoming an MSO or a CMT, it probably wouldn't be that helpful.

There are two things to consider if you are considering being an MSO or a CMT. Do you want to join as an officer or a soldier, and do you want a clinical role. MSOs are officers, but while they work for the Army Medical Services, they are not clinicians themselves. CMTs are soldiers and have a primarily clinical role, but they will also do non-medical tasks (such as learning to drive and maintain armoured vehicles).

If you wanted to be both an officer and work in an clinical role then you would need a professional qualification (doctor, nurse, pharmacist, physiotherapist etc..)

    I hope that helps.
