Journey for an army doctor

1) After school you need to gain a place at medical school via the normal route, so you will need the appropriate grades.
2) During medical school you can apply for a bursary.

3) After medical school you need to do foundation years 1&2, if you have been successful in your bursary application you will need to do these years at a JHG (Frimley Park, Northallerton, Portsmouth, Plymouth or the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham)
4) If you were not successful, or chose not to apply as a bursar, you can apply as a 'direct entrant' to start after FY1&2, you do not get the same financial benefits as the bursars. I recommend applying mid way through FY1 if you choose this option.
5) Attend RMAS to complete the short commissioning course
6) Complete the postgraduate medical officers course
7) Work as a General Duties Medical Officer for just over 2 years
8) Apply for specialty training in your chosen specialty
9) Complete your specialty training
10) And that's pretty much it!

As an already Qualified GP, you would join the army as a reservist GP.
As a reservist, you would not have a full time role. Full time GP's in the army running sick parades with in military surgery's. You would be used more in a exercise role, or on operations. You would do your minimum service days "21" as a GP on operations or on a exercise.
Before you start doing this, you first need to do Your basic training, Basic soldiering skills and officer training.
Once you have completed these, You will join the AMS "army medical service"
