in response to your question, an infantry soldiers duties can vary a large amount depending on the job they are doing and the unit they are working with.

Currently in the army, all of our infantry battalions generally follow a common theme which are:

- Line Infantry
- Armoured Infantry
- Mechanised Infantry
- Specialised Infantry

There are of course more areas which the infantry cover, but this is the basic premise for the more traditional war fighting areas. It essentially details the job the infantry does and how they do it, for example more work on foot for line infantry/specialised infantry and more work in armoured or mechanised vehicles for the others as mentioned.

Different regiments in the infantry generally tend to follow these different roles, so it's always best to check with your recruiter and get an idea of which you'd prefer. Whilst it's not always guaranteed you will get the regiment you want (Unless choosing the footguards or paratroopers), it's always good to have a preference and something to aim for.

In terms of peacekeeping operations, there are alot of responsibilities and it can in some areas been seen as more difficult than your traditional war fighting. Peacekeeping and humanitarian missions are all about helping others, This could be delivering aid to countries and people affected by disaster, providing a military presence to prevent a situation escalating and training other nations armies which might not have the same resources and training which we do, and so much more.

All of your pre deployment training will dictate exactly what the situation is and what is required, so you won't need to know exactly everything all the time, but with experience comes capability, and the more you are able to help out with these operations, the more capable and effective British army soldier you will become.
