First of all let me apologise for a late response, I have been unavailable due to a training course.

The Infantry, it is the tip of the spear and of the highest operational importance to the British Army. Because of this the combat training you will receive is second to none. Obviously there are variables but as a whole being Infantry means that you would be the fittest, most robust and demonstrate the highest level skill at arms amongst your colleagues outside of the Infantry.

The great thing about this job is that after completing basic training, you have already become a specialist in combat. However, the list of further training and specialisations is huge. Each battalion will have 3 rifle companies, a support company and a HQ company. Support companies are broken down into different platoons which are: Snipers, reconnaissance, assault pioneers, mortars and finally, anti-tanks. These are usually the most popular amongst soldiers and officers and I'm sure you can imagine why. There is then of course the HQ company which offers individuals the opportunity to specialise in radios (CIS Platoon), driving and vehicle maintenance (MT Platoon), becoming part of the Intelligence Cell or even becoming a storeman/woman.

These are all well within the grasp of any individual who leaves their basic training as a professional Infantryman/woman.

You could even provide specialist skills to the rifle platoon/company you belong to. Becoming a Physical Training Instructor (PTI) means you will educate, demonstrate and take soldiers and officers through their day to day physical training routines. Sharpshooters are a valuable asset to every section/platoon/company as well as machine-gunners and team medics provide vital operational effectiveness to your unit.

As a whole you may realise that although we have support from the rest of the British Army, we can if needed act very self-sufficiently if need be. Whatever you specialise in whether that is all or a small handful of subjects, you could become an instructor in these subjects over the years of your career.
