Hello there,
The amount of time you get at home varies at different points throughout your career. During the first few months of phase 1 Basic Training, you won't get home that often. Beyond that at phase 2, which for REME is near Swindon, you will be able to go home most weekends and will be able to utilise your 37 days leave a year during half-term periods. Once you hit the field force, your time is your own outside of working hours (8am-5pm) and exercise or operational commitments and depending on your posting location, you can commute daily.
I hope this answered your question.
