He has been put off starting he's application due to him being worried about the video. He was not saying it to anyone directly and again it was a sentence from a song. He also of course regrets saying the word. My friend has no criminal record. I have told him to still apply, but he's really not up for it now! he really is a nice guy and realises he has made a mistake. I'm hoping a soldier can give me some info so i can pass it on, thanks!
The Army has high values and standards, and would not condone this behaviour from a serving soldier, however it firmly believes in rehabilitation and giving people second chances. We recognise that people make mistakes and learn from them.
Please reassure your friend that this incident is highly unlikely to impact their application to join the forces.
I would advise that any posts linked to this incident are removed from all social media.
Firstly he has said thank you for your time and messages, and yes he understands that the army's values and standards are high, that is what put him off from joining as he thought he threw him self under the bus so to say. He knows he has made a mistake and intends to lean from it. I have passed on your message to him and he has also removed the posts from social media. He's only last concern now is that he completes training, and makes it to being a serving soldier, and somehow that video resurfaces, would it effect him? I've told him I personally think it wouldn't because it would just be the case of removing it again as it was an old video before he started serving. is there truth in this?
If the video were to resurface he would just have to explain the situation as you have here: that it was an old video, made before he joined the forces, that it intended no offence, and that he realised his mistake and ill judgement in making it, and removed the video. I think it is very unlikely that it would have any impact on his career.
