It's completely understandable that there will be apprehension from loved ones when you join the military. The best thing to do would be to discuss honestly and openly with your partner about things, and most of all, reassure them. Maybe even take them to a local careers office and speak directly with serving soldiers. Despite what you see in blockbuster films, the possibility that somebody is going to knock at your family's door is extremely low.

We're currently operating as a 'peacetime' army, meaning that we're not engaged in any official combat operations. Therefore, the likelihood of you being engaged with enemy is significantly lower. During operations that occurred in Afghanistan, there would have been an increased danger, however the British Army will always look to ensure your safety. Whether that be through comprehensive training or by supplying effective protective equipment (helmets, ballistic glasses, enhanced vehicle armour etc).

Did you also know there are a number of roles within the army that aren't considered front-line? There are lots of opportunities available to you outside of infantry/ combat style roles. For example, human resource specialist, dental nurse, port operator, chef to name but a few.
