Silly question but do reservists volunteer to deploy or are they made to deploy? If so how often are they mobilised?

The Mrs is worried about deployment and long durations of being away.

Hi, it's not a silly question. 99.9% of times you have to volunteer to go away and there will be many other people who'd also want to be mobilised so it might be that you volunteer and don't get to go anyway. There would be times away such as a 2 week training camp usually in around Sept / Oct time (most employers are signed up to the Military Covenant and give an extra 10 days leave to Reservists). Obviously if there was a national crisis or war then there would be no choice and Regular and Reserves would all be available to deploy. Most Reservists only go away when they volunteer to and most of them is to go on adventurous training or skiing etc!

Amazing, Thank you for confirming that!
