Question About medical standards relating to mild autism spectrum disorder

I've read the medical standards(jsp950) and it says In cases of mild, entirely non-disabling Asperger’s Syndrome, the single Service occupational physician may advise single Service recruiting staff psychiatric assessment is not required. This because pre-entry tests of suitability for military life (eg selection interviews and tests) are as good a form of assessment as a psychiatric assessment. The reason I'm asking this question is that I have a diagnosis of ASD and It is mild and non disabling however Asperger's syndrome was no longer used as a diagnosis by the NHS by the time I was diagnosed, and only ASD was used. I want to ask If I would fall into category of mild, entirely non-disabling Asperger’s Syndrome as I would have had a diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome had it still been in use as a diagnosis.

    Hi Ashwyn,

The best way to get a definitive answer on this is through an application as the process allows our team access to your medical records where they can make an assessment with all the facts available. Your are entirely correct on the statement from JSP950 and as part of your application a Doctor will be able to make their decision on this.

Thank you, The NHS no longer uses Asperger's syndrome as a diagnosis, so I don't know what the JSP 950 means when it says Asperger's as it hasn't been used as a diagnostic category for a while.
