Port and Maritime Operations Officer Role

If I were to join the RLC as an officer, do I get to choose my specialism as a Port and Maritime Operations Officer. Can I remain in that role for my career or must I go to other regiments as a logistics generalist officer? Also as an officer in 17 RLC do I undergo RYA powerboat training etc?

Hello, and thank you for your question.

You can choose to specialise as a Port and Maritime Operations Officer after your time as a Troop Commander. It's worth noting that the selection process is very competitive.

It's very unlikely that you'll remain at 17RLC. You'll be expected to routinely move roles to broaden your skills and experience.

RYA Powerboat training isn't a part of your military training, but as with most training you'll be able to get funding toward it if it's something you want to do.

I hope that's answered your questions, please feel welcome to ask any follow up questions in the comments.
