Maths is often used as a medic in pharmacy to work out dosages of medications, environmental health to work out measurements or dosages of treatments and facilities, and stores management as you need to be able to account for all of your kit. They are just a few examples.

Do you need to have general fitness or will they help you improve during training, and what is the support like during phase 2

The Army has a baseline standard of fitness that will be tested twice a year. If those standards aren't meet action will be taken to get you to those standards.

The fitter you are before you start training will only help you. However, the PT will be progressive as not everyone will be at the same standard. There will be test throughout training that if failed can slow you down.

All Physical Training will be supported by PT, medical, and rehab staff if required.
