Hi, I’m a mental health nursing student and would like to inquire about joining the army as a mental health professional. I would like to know if I’ll always be moved all over the country and the chances that I might be sent out of the country as I have two under 3 year olds and want to be with them
As a mental health nurse you are quite often based in the same location for continuity of patients.
Although there may be a requirement to move locations the Army is quite accommodating for those with kids.
There may be times where you will be required to deploy or leave the country but plans should be organised between yourself the welfare team and your family to be able to arrange for this so it is dealt with suitably. If you have any concerns with Army service and whilst having kids then you may be better off talking to the NRC on 0345 600 80 80 to discuss in more detail. If you decide thats not for you then maybe consider the reserves.
