Life as a Muslim in the army

I was just wondering if I would be able to observe my 5 daily prayers, eat halal and have like a 1 hour period on Fridays to pray at the mosque or in congregation with other Muslims on camp? Would this also be okay when doing activities like fieldcraft as this a mandatory action I must complete. And what is racism like towards Muslims in the army? Thank you

    Hi there,

Halal food is available both on camp, exercise and operations for our Muslim soldiers. Wherever possible, the Army supports your practising of your faith and you will have the support of the chain of command and also organisations such as the Armed Forces Muslim Association to guide you into seeing how the Army is compatible with your faith. More information on AFMA can be found here - https://afma.org.uk/.

The Army has a zero tolerance attitude to all unacceptable behaviours. Where they are identified, including racism, the disciplinary system is able to deal with them. From my experience working with muslim soldiers, both now and in the past, they have a positive experience in an organisation like ours which focusses on professionalism and your ability to conduct your job first and foremost.
