Hello,
It is possible to be a CMT and then become a doctor, but it is not straightforward.
You cannot be in the Army during the start of medical school, and being in the Army as a CMT does not necessarily guarantee you will be offered a job as a doctor.
CMTs who wish to become Army doctors must first gain a place at medical school, this is done through the normal pathway that anyone gets into medical school, so you will need the right grades etc.. to get in.
Once they have a place they need to resign from the Army.
If they wish to become an Army doctor there are two ways of applying to re-join.
They can apply while at medical school for a bursary, this means they get paid during their last 3 years of medical school and during their 2 foundation years they work in a JHG (a hospital where both NHS and military staff work). They then need to complete the short commissioning course at RMAS.
Alternatively they could apply after they finish medical school to join as a 'direct entrant'. They won't get the financial advantages of being a bursar, but they will have more choice on where to work during their foundation years. They then join the bursars to do the same short commissioning course.
The application process for both of these examples is roughly the same as the officer selection process, except they will also do their interview with the Army Medical Services before being offered a job.
I hope that all makes sense, let me know if you have any questions.
It is worth noting that gaining a nursing degree is different, and it is possible to gain a nursing degree through the Army. More information on this can be found here https://apply.army.mod.uk/roles/army-medical-service/army-nurse
