Good morning,
It is important to involve your family in your decisions Regardless of how old you are. I joined at 27 and still involved my family in my decision. This is because your choice to join will have a great impact on them As well as you. They are there as your support network and will be there for you throughout your career.
If this is something you are really keen on then speak to them and suggest they explore options with you. Maybe take them to speak to recruiting staff at an event. This will allow them to better understand the Army and ask any questions they have. It sounds like at least one of them has experience of someone who is in the Army however the Army of your grandfather is significantly different to that of today. Also look into the opportunities the army can offer you and how these may differ to your current situation. The army isn’t just about you serving your country, it’s also about what you can get out of it.
I hope this helps.
