Is there roles for registered paramedics within the Army Reserves and how does it work in terms of scope of practice?
I am starting university now and am looking at options for afterwards. I've always had an interest in the military, being a member of the RAFAC since the age of twelve. While the military is a big part of my life, I only want to do it alongside a full time career in the NHS. My interests are to advance into the Critical Care field on civvi street, so I would be interested in eventually being in MERT within the Army (or the RAF...?). I would have a degree, so I would also like to know what the difference would be if I was to go in as a reserve officer compared to reserve soldier? Thank you!

Hello,
This is a relatively specialist question, so you may be best contacting the AMS recruiting team directly (via their website or social media).
There is no specific paramedic role in the military, but of course we do employ paramedics. Paramedics are usually employed as CMTs (Combat Medical Technicians), but will often join at a rank that reflects their clinical ability. As they fill the CMT role, you can only join as a soldier at present. Paramedics who join as officers tend to join as Medical Support Officers, which is a non clinical role.
If you are specifically interested in MERT, I would recommend trying to have a chat with both the Army and the RAF recruiting teams to see what roles might be available to you.
