That's a great question and the answer is pretty simple - yes!
There are loads of engineering roles with mean you will be operating near the front line of a conventional conflict. These could be disarming explosives, such as minefields and IEDs, or building defences for front line troops, like trenches and patrol bases. The army will always need engineers to clear a path so they can move, and to keep soldiers protected when they stop.
