Is there an point when age becomes a disadvantage joining the Paratroopers?

Is there an point when age becomes a disadvantage when joining the Paratroopers? I’m 26 now and 27 in August – I’d dedicate a year to get in proper shape and depending on the recruitment process probably not get to basic training until 29… Is this an unrealistic goal?

Hello. So long as you are under the maxim age upon going to training, you are capable of doing the job and pass the selection process then there is no reason your age will be a problem. Thanks.

Yes, joining the as a Paratrooper involves meeting specific age and fitness requirements, and there are optimal times and considerations for enlistment.

Optimal Time to Join - The ideal age to join the Parachute Regiment (Paras) is typically when you are young and physically at your peak. The minimum age for enlistment is 16 years (with parental consent), and the maximum age is 35. However, most recruits join between the ages of 18 and 25. While the maximum age for enlistment is 35, older applicants may find the physical demands of the training more challenging compared to younger recruits. Recovery times, endurance, and overall physical resilience generally decrease with age. Older recruits need to put in extra effort to ensure they meet the physical requirements. My Recommendations is regardless of your age, thorough preparation for the physical aspects of the training is essential. Engaging in a regular and intensive fitness programme that includes cardiovascular, strength, and endurance training will help any person pass the course and whilst younger recruits generally have an advantage due to physical and career progression reasons, motivated older applicants can still succeed with adequate preparation and determination. If you are physically fit and younger than 35 you should Consult with a Recruiter at an Army Career Centre.
