Hi Callum,
There is indeed such a job - what you are taking about is the role of a Joint Terminal Attach Controller (JTAC) which is a trade within the Royal Artillery.
People who go into this trade generally start their career in the Royal Artillery as an ‘Observer’, and train to call in joint fires assets, or they start as Communications specialists. Then when they have a little experience they can attempt the selection process to become a JTAC.
