    Hi, thank you for your question. Royal Engineers are often referred to as Combat Engineers. Everyone who joins the army is trained to be a soldier first. As a Royal Engineer you might find yourself in a combat situation but your role in what you're doing would be different - you may be demolishing a bridge, or laying a bridge to enable the infantry to do their job. The army is like a working clock - every cog (the capbadges/roles etc) works to make that clock (the army) work to the best of its ability.
