Julian Q. asked a question to Jen C.
I am a History teacher with 45yo.
Perhaps look at the Educational Training Services (AGC (ETS)). At 45yrs old, the Army Reserves could be something to look at as a fully qualified teacher. You could work in a local Army Education Centre (AEC) close to where you are but occassionally train with other ETS Reserve officers in Winchester as it is part of the national reserves. As an ETS officer you could find yourself teaching both regular and reserve soldiers as part of the career courses in defence knowledge, written communications and management theory just to name a few things. As an ex ETS officer myself (both regular and as a reserve) it is one of the most rewarding jobs.
