I am considering commissioning as a Regular Officer or as a Medical Officer (have not attended uni yet)
Hi Ashwin,
They are quite different careers and it's difficult to compare them.
It depends what you think you might like to do in the long term.
Being a medical officer gives you a trade and skills that you can use if you decide to leave the military. Medical officers may also work in jobs that are both clinical and managerial during their career, giving you a bit of both worlds.
A regular officer will do the long course rather than the short course at RMAS. They could enter a huge variety of roles and gain many different skills during their career.
In regards to who has more fun? I think they both have similar opportunities, and it's more down to the individual to make the most of that.
I've done lots of sports and AT, some of my medical colleagues have not, but I would same there is the same variability amongst regular officers as well.
Best of luck with your decision!
