Is it possible to set something up to unblock road drains and clear vegetation from river culverts to help prevent flood

Claire D. asked a question to Josh S.

It would bring peace of mind knowing you are staying in Great Britain, not taking part in a war and staying safe. Safety gear could be important so nobody would catch anything and it would also bring some peace of mind to the people that live near the big rivers where there is more risk.

Hey Claire, thanks for you question. Although engineering isn't my area of expertise I have done UK operations with the army. The key answers to your questions are:

    • Yes, the army absolutely has the capability to carry out flood defence work and has done so on a number of occasions in recent years. The government will always use it's specialists first but, in the event there is an emergency, the army can and does support.
    • Yes, UK operations are incredibly rewarding for soldiers and reassuring for UK residents, but we are currently spread all over the world on operations, including supporting countries who are directly involved in conflict, so UK operations are always in addition to our normal duties.

    Hope that helps.
