Is it possible for a regular soldier to become an officer in the army? And if they can how do they do that?

Yes. There are two routes a regular soldier can go down to become a commissioned officer. Firstly, there is the "direct entry" route; which would entail attending the Potential Officer Development course and if successful, the soldier would then go on to attend the full course at Sandhurst to become a commissioned officer.

Secondly there is the "late entry" route. The rules on this process are different for every regiment/corps; however it allows soldiers who reach a certain rank (at least Sgt, WO2 in most cases) and have a certain amount of time served/age to become an officer and go straight to the rank of Captain without doing the full course at Sandhurst. There is also a selection process involved in this.
