I am interested in any sort of flying, whether helicopter or fixed wing. I have all the GCSEs requirements but my A level grades were bad (BDDE) I did have some mitigating circumstances. I did a foundation year before going on to get a degree in Astrophysics from the university of Leeds. So I was wondering if this was possible? If not, do you have any roles suited for me?
Hi Thomas,
To become a pilot (without being a soldier first) you will apply to become an officer and subsequently a pilot. Your A-Levels are fine for an officer application (at least 72 UCAS points) and the selection process is where we place our weight. You will do a pilot aptitude test that will also assess your ability to fly and it does not focus on academic ability.
Alternatively, you could serve as a soldier first, either in the Army Air Corps as Ground Crew or anywhere else for that fact. Then, having promoted, you could apply for the soldier pilot entry.
Hope this helps.
