Is dog training different to dog handling with the army/military?

My dad told me about the idea of dog training - training dogs aged 18-24 months for a certain amount of weeks then you'd get a new dog. is this true? he mentioned that this job could allow me to travel, could i travel abroad (not in the uk) and dog train or is deployment strictly for dog handlers?

Your job role as a dog handler requires you to both train and look after your own dog. Should the dog retire from service then you will be required to train a new one as a replacement and there may be a requirement for you to help others train theirs should you be efficient at doing so. Deployments outside of the UK for dog handlers happen relatively often as you can be attached to any unit that requires one for a deployment. This will depend on the type of dog that you have and their specific capabilities such as cash/ drugs / explosives or public order.
