Information

Hello all, I hope this message finds you well and your in great health. I'm 32 years of age always wanted to apply for any of the forces but never felt I could because I'm a gay man. I have an uncle in the navy who has worked really hard and gone above and beyond in his career, which I admire with the upmost respect. I come from a hard working family background and always thought I had a point to prove to my greater generation as it was frowned upon from what they were taught and believed. I came out at 14 years old, by their being no one for me to look up to in my family or the real world I was a lone wolf in a big scary world, but I was very fortunate I took all the stones, names, negativity and all types of abuse on the chin as I wasn't going to allow them types of people to change who I am to react in a way where I'm worse than them. I'm in a place in my life where I've worked really hard to get to, physically emotionally and respectfully. I'd like to think I could help in some way by applying, I just feer my age would be a massive negative consideration in my application but im hoping it won't be. I'm a fast learner, quick thinker, work best under pressure. I can lone work, work as a two, be part of a group and also lead a group of various numbers as I have in my vast experience in my employment History. I hope to hear back either way, please if you need any more information do not hesitate to get in touch. I wish you all the best and a prosperous future. Mr M A Davis 07821468622

Katie -. Staff Officer Projects For People

    Hi there Michael,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your story. I am sorry to hear that you have had to face some real challenges to get to where you are today, but it sounds like these have made you all the stronger, more resilient, and more determined to succeed. These are all excellent qualities and certainly things that would help you succeed in the Army.

The Army embraces diversity, and everyone in the Army, no matter what their sexual orientation or gender identity, has the right to be treated fairly with dignity and respect.

To join as a soldier you would need to ensure you enlist before your 36th birthday. Officer entry is usually capped at 29, but depending on your skills and experience you may still be considered. Alternatively if you wanted to serve alongside a civilian job then the Army Reserve could be an option, which accepts entrants up to 43 years of age.

The next step is to look at the Army Entrance Requirements on the Army website to check you meet all the criteria: https://jobs.army.mod.uk/how-to-join/can-i-apply/
If so, you can request to apply through that site and a Recruiter will contact you. It is also worth checking out the Army Role Finder too, so you can start to think about what roles interest you.

Could I ask you to edit your initial question and remove your phone number please, just for your own data protection as this website is open source which means anyone can access it. A recruiter won’t get back to you from this page as you’ll need to complete the expression of interest on the Army website to initiate that.

I hope this helps, but if you want to know more please just reply on this thread.

    Good luck!

    Katie
